Serbian Parliament Speaker Ivica Dacic said that the reasons for the environmental protests will no longer exist once MPs pass amendments to the law on referendums on Friday.

Speaking on the state TV (RTS) morning news, Dacic said he can’t say when the amended law will be published in the Official Gazette. Under Serbian law, new laws take effect on after publication in the Official Gazette. He added that the amendments are planned to be adopted later on Friday. That debate is the only thing on the agenda of the parliament session.

According to Dacic, a lot of people will be unhappy because the conditions are being created to end the road block protests. Dacic heads the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) which is part of the ruling coalition with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
