Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, currently in Shanghai, stated that no one has all the information regarding the tragedy in Novi Sad and said he does not want to be part of an anti-China hysteria that, according to him, has emerged following the incident.

Speaking about investigating the chain of responsibility regarding the collapse of the Novi Sad Railway Station canopy, Vucevic mentioned that many things remain unknown at this point.

„The truth must be told. No one has all the data, as this is a very complex issue. Was anything done? Wasn’t it done? If it was, when was it done, and what was done? We are talking about the entire railway station. And then, how did this tragedy happen? How is it possible that the structure gave way? How is it possible it collapsed so suddenly? These are many, many questions, and I think you and the entire public of Serbia have seen in these past 24 hours many conflicting opinions from professionals,“ Vucevic said, adding that this complicates the process of determining what happened.

He emphasized that he would never support „potential anti-China hysteria.“

„Notice how now there’s hysteria, of course geopolitically driven, suggesting we should arrest all Chinese companies and their representatives. We don’t even know who did what, whether anything was done, or if it was done in 1964, 2022, or 2024. Let’s wait for the facts. But of course, everything should be investigated. This is a serious warning to everyone, especially those in this profession, that there must be more frequent inspections and oversight of all facilities,“ the Serbian PM said.

Vucevic was in Shanghai today to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese company Minth Group, which already has two factories in Serbia.

He noted that this is a fully robotized factory that supplies major German and Japanese car manufacturers, and their intention is to bring new investments in the fields of development and logistics to Belgrade and Inđija.

As a reminder, on Friday, the canopy at the entrance to Novi Sad Railway Station collapsed, killing 14 people, while three injured individuals remain in serious condition.

The Novi Sad Railway Station has been renovated twice in the past four years. The first renovation occurred between 2021 and 2022, and after a few months, further works began on the same building. The station was officially reopened on July 5 this year.
