Serbian PM discusses new university standards with Belgrade University delegation

Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut discussed new standards for university-level education with Belgrade University deans and the vice-rector, a government press release said on Tuesday.

“Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of adopting new norms and standards for the operation of higher education institutions founded by the Republic of Serbia, as well as determining the material resources required for their implementation,” it said and added that they also discussed international accreditation, study programs, and participation in international projects under the Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ programs.
The press release said that the Belgrade University delegation was headed by Vice-Rector Vladimir Cvetkovic and not Rector Vladan Djokic who met with Macut and his associates several times. “They also discussed the inclusion of higher education institutions in the budget execution system of the Republic of Serbia, i.e. the System for Preparation, Execution, Accounting and Reporting (SPIRI), where it was noted that it is necessary to organize intensive meetings and workshops with the competent ministries in the coming period,” it added.
It said that the meeting marked the end of the 2nd round of talks in preparation for the start of the new academic year.

“In an open conversation, the Vice-Rector and the deans reported to the Prime Minister on the level of implementation of teaching and examination periods in the 2024/2025 academic year and preparations for the start of the next 2025/2026 academic year, namely the adopted plans for teaching and organizing examination periods in the new academic year, and presented to him the challenges that higher education institutions face in carrying out their activities,” the press release said.
