Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said that her Government will try to secure the highest possible severance pay for the 500 redundant Fiat employees and help them find new jobs.
Brnabic told the pro-regime TV Pink that the Stellantis company, which is to manufacture electric cars at the Fiat plant in Kragujevac late in 2024, will need 1,550 workers, and that Fiat currently employs 2,016.
“They will get severance pay and it will be higher than the legal minimum, that’s been taken care of. They asked for even more, we are fighting to secure the best terms possible for them,” said Brnabic.
Of the 1,550 workers that the factory will need, 500 will stay on in Kragujevac in the transitional period of 18 to 24 months, they will receive full salaries, said Brnabic, adding that these will certainly include vulnerable groups like pregnant women, women with small children and the disabled.
„We have 1,000 people who are to undergo retraining and training abroad. The biggest battle now is to secure the best possible terms for them too,” said Brnabic, adding that an agreement has been reached under which, once they are back in the country, these workers will have jobs waiting for them in the Stellantis plant.
