Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Monday that the outcome of the referendum is a big step towards further democratization.
Serbians voted at a referendum on Sunday, deciding to adopt amendments to the constitution which change the way judges and prosecutors are appointed.
“We have taken a big step in strengthening rule of law and the further democratization of our society. This is the first time in Serbia’s history that it is getting an independent judiciary and prosecution, continuing the strengthening of institutions,” Brnabic wrote in an Instagram post.
She believes the significance of the introduction of the amendments to the constitution will become clear in years to come. Brnabic thanked everyone who voted to adopt the amendments helping what she called a very important decision for the future of the country.
