Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has firmly denied allegations linking Serbia to the explosion on the Ibar-Lepenac canal, describing such claims as baseless and absurd.

„Belgrade and Serbia have absolutely no connection to the incident, nor would it ever occur to us to commit such an act,“ Vucic stated during a press conference in Belgrade. He criticised initial accusations from Pristina, which pointed the finger at Serbia, calling them unsubstantiated.

„We will insist on a thorough investigation into this matter, perhaps even more than Pristina. They immediately blamed Serbia and Belgrade, but we had no knowledge of it, let alone involvement,“ Vucic emphasised.

He reiterated Serbia’s willingness to cooperate fully with EULEX, the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo, in investigating the incident. „As a serious state, we refrained from pointing fingers or making accusations. We are conducting our own investigation, have some suspicions, and have gathered certain information about possible perpetrators, but we won’t discuss it publicly,“ Vucic added.

The President also suggested that the explosion may be part of a broader „hybrid attack“ targeting Serbia.

The incident has led to heightened tensions in northern Kosovo. On Sunday morning, an increased presence of Kosovo Police was reported in the region following the explosion and subsequent searches of Serbian homes in several villages within the Zubin Potok municipality.
Two individuals, including journalist Dusan Milanovic, have been detained, according to Igor Simic, Vice President of the Serbian List political party.

Pristina’s accusations against Serbia regarding the explosion were categorically rejected by Serbian officials earlier. The situation continues to unfold, with both sides demanding accountability and clarity through investigations.
