Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic signed a set of judiciary laws which have been criticized by both the opposition and the European Commission.

The set of laws was submitted to parliament by ryuling SNS MP Ugljesa Mrdic. Critics have warned that the laws significantly limit the operations of the Organized Crime Prosecution (TOK) which has come under fire from the ruling coalition for indicting ministers and other state officials.

The laws were signed by the president on January 30 and were immediately published in the Official Gazette with immediate implementation of all except the law on the seats and areas covered by courts and prosecution offices which will be implemented as of July 1.

Vucic said earlier that he checked with experts to see if the laws were in line with the constitution and received assurances that they were.
