Serbian Railways Infrastructure director resigns over Novi Sad tragedy

Jelena Tanaskovic, the Director of the state-owned company Serbian Railways Infrastructure, handed in her resignation on Wednesday, the media reported.

This is the second resignation on Wednesday, following the earlier resignation of Serbian Minister of Internal and External Trade Tomislav Momirovic.

Tanaskovic’s resignation comes in the wake of the tragedy in Novi Sad, where a concrete canopy roof at the railway station collapsed leaving 15 people dead. Earlier, Goran Vesic, the Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure, resigned over the accident.

In a public address on Tuesday evening, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he expects further resignations in connection with the Novi Sad tragedy.

He added he was certain that the prosecutor’s office would the take action as soon as possible.
