N1 has been told unofficially that all the mayors in southern Serbia are tendering their resignations under instructions from the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

The Beta news agency said that a number of mayors in southern Serbian towns have resigned while pro-government Politika daily said that it was told unofficially that the initiative to resign came from the top ranks of the ruling SNS allegedly because elections are coming. The daily said that all ruling coalition mayors across Serbia would be resigning.

According to opposition officials, the deadline to call elections is 30 days after the resignation of the mayor which they think fits into the December 17 date that has been mentioned by SNS officials as well as President Aleksandar Vucic.
