Bratislav Gasic, director of the Security Intelligence Agency (BIA), said that “the country has recently been exposed to increasingly pronounced hybrid threats which are showing the traits of hybrid warfare whose integral part is the hyper-production of false news aimed at causing divisions and tension in society”.
Gasic is a high-ranking official of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) who served as Defense Minister.
He told a 20th anniversary celebration at the BIA headquarters that the situation demanded a change in the priorities of the agency’s engagement and use of resources.
According to Gasic, “dozens of operational activities were conducted to protect internal security, primarily constitutional order, with the aim of countering threats which, the agency learned, were inspired and devised most often by centers of power and attempted to be realized with the cooperation of domestic players”.
