The Serbian State Archives opened an exhibition of World War 1 documents to mark the 110th anniversary of the start of the Great War.

A government press release said that Prime Minister Milos Vucevic attended the openeing with Culture Minister Nikola Selakovic. Archives Director Miroslav Perisic presented a copy of the telegram sent by the Austro-Hungarian Empire declaring war on Serbia to the Prime Minister.

Vucevic is quoted as saying that a culture of remembrance is necessary to move forward and understand the present. He said he is impressed that the original of the ultimatum sent from Vienna and the Serbian Kingdom’s reply have been preserved.

Selakovic said that the opening of the exhibition was set for the date that the ultimatum was sent and would remain open until July 28 that date that Serbia replied. He said the exhibition would tour 21 cities and towns in Serbia and another four in the Republika Srpska in Bosnia-Herzegovina which was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1914.
