A group of 80 Serbian students cycling to Strasbourg continued their journey today from Dunav Varos to Budapest, where a formal welcome is planned in the afternoon.

Unlike the previous day, the cyclists are now accompanied by Hungarian police at the front and rear of their convoy, assisting their movement toward Budapest.

The Serbian community in the Hungarian capital will host a welcoming ceremony at Heroes' Square for the students arriving from Vojvodina.

Jakov, a member of the student reception committee, told N1 that food is being prepared for the cyclists and praised the Serbian community in Budapest for their enthusiastic response to the initiative.

He expressed hope that their protest would lead to change and that he would be able to return to Serbia.

“We hope to go back to Serbia when everything is more normal and better. To our Hungarian and foreign colleagues, we want to present the situation positively and show them how students are fighting to change the regime,” Jakov told N1.

The cyclists are travelling through Subotica, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Linz, Salzburg, Munich, Augsburg, Ulm, and Stuttgart before reaching Strasbourg on April 17.

Their goal is to draw the European Union’s attention to their months-long protests against corruption in Serbia, a Balkan country seeking EU membership.
