The Serbian Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ) warned that a heat wave is coming over the next few days with temperatures going as high as 40 degrees C.

RHMZ meteorologist Goran Mihajlovic told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that a warning was published saying that temperatures would go as high as 37 degrees mid-week and climb to 40 degrees over the weekend. He recalled that the highest temperature recorded in recent history in Serbia was 44 degrees C. The RHMZ measures temperature in the shade.

Mihajlovic said temperatures would peak over the weekend and drop to between 30 and 34 degrees next week but warned that heat waves could come in August.
