Serbians injured in bus crash in Bulgaria
At least 8 children and 4 adults were injured when a bus carrying Serbian tourists crashed in Bulgaria, Ambassador Zeljko Jovic told N1.
The ambassador said that 46 passenger were taken to hospital for checkups. The passengers were taken to the University Hospital in the city of Stara Zagora, hospital CEO Jovco Jovcev told Nova.bg. He said that several children aged six to 17 were hospitalized, adding that one man suffering serious injuries. A doctor in the bus helped tend to the injured before the emergency services arrived.
Bulgaria media reported that the bus was taking the Serbian folklore group home from the Nesebar folklore festival.
Witnesses said the bus suddenly swerved off the road into a ditch. One of the passengers said the driver was reaching for something on one of the front seats and pulled the steering wheel to the right. The driver was tested by the police and found not to have been drinking but suffered a broken arm. He was arrested and will be held for 24 hours pending a court appearance.
Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar went to the hospital in Stara Zagora to visit the injured passengers.
