Serbia's acting school owner suspected of rape faces up to 15 years in prison

Miroslav Aleksic, a well-known professor of acting, director, producer and actor, suspected of eight counts of rape and seven counts of sexual harassment, was ordered 30 day-detention on Monday, after the hearing before the Belgrade Higher Prosecutors' Office.

If found guilty, he could face up to 15 years of imprisonment.

He is suspected of raping or sexually harassing six girls, one of them a minor, others both when were underage and older, from 2008 to 2020.

Aleksic was arrested on Sunday,after Serbia's actress Milena Radulovic, his former student, said she reported him to the police for raping her several times starting in 2012 when she was 17, and he was 61.

Five other students at Aleksic's private acting school joined Radulovic in reporting him.

The Prosecutors' Office said it would not reveal details of the procedure because of the case's sensitivity, the public disturbance it caused, and the minors' involvement. It said that it would inform the public about the investigation in due time.

The general public, public figures, people from the film and theatre industry flooded social network and other media appalled by the revelation about the man many considered to be the best acting professor whose students almost without exception enrolled the prestigious Belgarde Academy of Arts.
