Serbia’s central bank governor at Executive Programme in Gold Reserves Management

National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic is participating in a three-day Executive Programme in Gold Reserves Management, organized by the World Gold Council (WGC) and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), which brings together senior representatives of central banks and the world’s leading financial institutions, as well as top gold market experts from over 40 countries, the NBS said.

The Serbian central bank said the Executive Programme is one of the most renowned global gatherings dedicated to the role of gold in monetary and financial systems and is traditionally held as part of the international activities of the BIS and WGC.
“This year’s Programme is also notable as the NBS Governor is the only central bank governor with the opportunity to address the participants. This represents a significant recognition for Serbia, reflecting its developed and successful cooperation with the BIS in purchasing gold in the international market,” the NBS said in a press release.
The Programme is a platform for exploring the latest trends in the global gold market, sharing professional expertise, and strengthening inter-institutional cooperation on reserve management and financial markets, it added.
“Governor Tabakovic briefly addressed participants today, thanking them for the invitation and underscoring the importance of Serbia’s timely, strategic decisions to increase its gold reserves – a policy initiated well before the surge in global demand in 2022. Tabakovic will deliver a keynote address detailing Serbia’s experience in increasing its reserves to over 50 tons, which makes the country a leader in the Western Balkans. A series of high-level bilateral meetings on topics of mutual interest are also scheduled,” the NBS said.
