Days after local branches of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) voted for the ouster of the organisations’ deputy leader and current Defence Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic, he spoke out on Friday as President Aleksandar Vucic’s most loyal ally, saying he wouldn’t “peacefully watch on the lies about his friend spread by the worst (people).”

He added he would tell the truth and do everything he could to help Vucic bear such a heavy burden.

“I want to tell Serbia’s people there are no any dirty businesses as those liars from the opposition expect. I want to tell our citizens they can be relaxed because I’m sure that Serbia is on a good path led by Aleksandar Vucic and that we are looking at our country’s progress in years ahead,” Stefanovic wrote on the SNS official Facebook page.

He added he had been listening for a long-time to “the most incredible lies about Vucic and SNS spread by (the opposition politicians) DraganDjilas, Vuk Jeremic, Bosko Obradovic and their megaphones.”

“In the media under their control, they daily speculate about Vucic’s and my relationship, maliciously mentioning numerous fabrications to divert attention from offshore locations and billions they took out from Serbia… I can only say that I’m proud to be a part of the team Vucic leads in the fight for a better Serbia,” Stefanovic wrote.

The post appeared following Vucic’s statement, days after the seemingly orchestrated voting campaign within SNS, that he did not believe Stefanovic, as former Interior Minister, had anything to do with the wiretapping of numerous people suspected of some crimes who Vucic spoke to.

He said that would tantamount to a coup d’etat.

The local SNS branches, including the Belgrade’s board which he headed, said the crucial reason for Stefanovic’s ouster was that ex Interior Minister did not do his job correctly in securing the safety of Vucic and his family.
Stefanovic’s post also came after speculations that the opposition could accept him as a man who knew many potentially damaging information about Vucic and SNS and who might speak out if he felt betrayed after years of loyal service.
