Following his several-day visit to China, Serbia’s Interior Minister, Ivica Dacic, said he is certain Serbia will have China’s support in the UN regarding the issue of Kosovo. Dacic said that he had informed Chinese officials about the "terror against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and about the non-respect of all international agreements", his cabinet announced. Dacic said that this „puts Serbia in a very difficult position“ because it „trusted the international community that it would stand behind its signature“.

“In this regard, we also need the very important support of China in the UN, and it is certain that we will have their support“, said Dacic. He added that mutual support is very important regarding issues of importance to both countries, such as territorial integrity.

Dacic’s statement came following two weeks of heightened tensions in Kosovo, during which three Kosovo ministries moved into the buildings of Serb institutions in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica. Four Serbs were arrested in that city in the following days and, according to the ombudsman, they were subjected to torture in custody.

China has not recognized Kosovo’s independence, while Serbia supports Beijing in its territorial disputes.
