Serbia’s KRIK receives world award for data journalism

Serbia's Crime and Corruption Reporting Network, KRIK, said on Friday it was awarded the world 'Sigma' data journalism recognition for its base "Judge Who Judges," about the judicial system in Serbia.

The base was among 545 projects from 68 countries, and the awarded media included Reuters and The New Your Times, KRIK said in its statement.

„Judges, their acts and wealth are one of the best-kept secrets in Serbia’s society,“ the jury said. It explained the decision to award KRIKbecasue it managed to show through persistent reporting what was hidden in controversial decisions that have affected citizens during the previous decades.

„Sigma Award is an international data journalism award which aims to not just celebrate the best data journalism around the world, but also to empower, elevate and enlighten the global community of data journalists,“ said its website.

The international jury was made of 21 experienced journalists and media experts in publicly available data.
