Serbia’s Min: Sputnik V production at home by end of year, approved for 60+
Nenad Popovic, Serbia’s Minister of Innovation and Technological Development, said on Thursday the first phase of the Russian Sputnik V anti-coronavirus production would start ‘in three months’ at the Torlak’ Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Sera.
He told the state RTS TV ‘the second phase,’ i.e., the independent production, would begin by the end of the year, after Belgrade provide all necessary technical equipment, but warned that “there is a huge shortage of that equipment in the world.”
The locally produced vaccine would be for export, but also for domestic use, the Minister said.
Popovic added that last night Serbia’s Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (ALIMS) officially approved Sputnik V for people over 60 years of age.
He said a new contingent of two million Sputnik V vaccine would arrive in Serbia by the end of March.
Earlier on Thursday, Dusan Popadic,an immunology professor at the Belgrade Medical Faculty, told the Belgrade Danas daily the full production of the vaccine could not be expected in mid-term.
