Serbian cabinet Minister Dr Darija Kisic Tepavcevic said that health care facilities would start administering a third coronavirus vaccine shot on Tuesday for people who received their second shot at least six months earlier.
The Labor, Veterans’ and Social Affairs Minister told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that the third dose is not mandatory but is recommended for people with immunity issues. “People who have undergone transplantation, on dialysis, anyone on immunosuppressive therapy, or over the age of 70 and in social care facilities as well as international travellers,” she said.
The doctor, who is on the government pandemic response team as a medical expert, said the third dose is also recommended for health care staff.
Later on Monday, Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar confirmed her words and explained the procedure.
All re-vaccinated people will be informed via SMS or e-mail by they can ask for the booster shot either as suggested by their doctors, or they can ask for it at any community health centre.
He added it was irrelevant what kind of the third vaccine they would get – either the same as the first two or some other because all combinations proved harmless.
In Serbia, four different types of vaccines are available – Sinofarm, Sputnik V, Pfizer and AstraZeneca.
