Miroslav Aleksic, a deputy leader of Serbia's opposition People's Party, told Nova S TV on Wednesday that President Aleksandar Vucic was blackmailed with crime and could not bring decision beneficial for the country.

„Vucic is blackmailed with a crime about which the foreigners know everything,“ Aleksic said, as quoted by the Beta news agency, adding it was easiest for them to talk with „a blackmailed man.“

Since in that position, he added, „Vucic cannot make decisions to the benefit of the country and its people but has to save himself instead.“

„Yesterday, at the session of the National Security Council, Milan Radoicic sat next to Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and (civilian security agency) BIA Director Bratislav Gasic. Radoicic was suspected of involvement in the murder of (Kosovo Serb politician) Oliver Ivanovic (in 2018), and an arrest warrant was issued for him. What kind of state are we…, Aleksic asked.

He added that the Government was criminalised and immersed in corruption, „which has never been greater.“

Aleksic, whose organisation is a part of the leading opposition coalition ‘United for Serbia’s Victory,’ called on all people to turn out for April 3 presidential, early general and Belgrade elections to „free Serbia.“

„I believe that people will understand how important their votes are,“ he added.

Aleksic also said the support of Vucic’s ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) was declining and that it could not count on new votes.

The opposition believes it can win in Belgrade, score well at the republican level and force Vucic into the second round of the presidential race.
