Serbia's opposition politician proposes elections for European Parliament in all EU candidate countries

The leader of the Freedom and Justice Party, Dragan Djilas, said in Skopje at a gathering of social democratic parties from the region and European social democrats that the Western Balkans needs "a clear message from Europe that they are counting on us," proposing that elections for the European Parliament be organized in all EU candidate countries that have opened negotiations with the Union.

Speaking at the roundtable "Common Region - Common Vision - Common Future", he assessed that in this way, these countries would have their own representatives, who, unlike MPs from EU member states, would not have the right to vote, but would have the right to speak at parliamentary sessions.
"This way, they could influence decisions and make it possible for the voice of those of us who fight for European values and the European future of our countries, but also of the entire region, to be heard," Djilas explained.
The roundtable organized by the Progress Institute, organized just before the local elections in North Macedonia, was attended by representatives of social democratic parties from Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, as well as representatives of European social democrats.
