Serbia’s power utility CEO urges more efficient electricity consumption

Speaking to the Serbian state TV (RTS), Zivkovic said that despite the challenging circumstances, citizens should not worry about the reliability of the power supply, describing the situation as stable.

He pointed out that all thermal power plants are currently operational, with the exception of two undergoing scheduled maintenance. Hydroelectric plants, meanwhile, are operating at capacities dictated by current water inflow. Zivkovic added that no significant increase in the Danube’s water levels is expected soon, though the Drina River has a decent inflow considering the current hydrological conditions and the ongoing drought.

“Our focus is on maintaining a continuous power supply and securing the necessary volumes, sourcing from the market if needed, with the key objective of preserving our reservoirs and coal stockpiles. This strategy ensures we maintain energy security through our own production capacities,” he explained.

Regarding consumption, Zivkovic expects demand to hover around 100 gigawatt-hours per day in the coming days, adding that EPS is fully prepared to cover this demand using its own production capacity.
