Several thousand students and supporters marched through central Belgrade on Tuesday evening in a show of support for Belgrade University law school students who were assaulted outside their school by thugs overnight.
The crowd chanted “Justice, justice,” and carried banners featuring traditional red handprints with the words “Your hands are bloody.” People in cars greeted them along the way. Upon reaching the Law School building, they sent a message that they are not afraid.
Before the march began, a student addressed the crowd through a megaphone, emphasizing that the large turnout demonstrated solidarity with their Law School colleagues.
“We have no leaders, we follow no one, but together we follow one voice – the voice of common sense,” the student said.
He added that their colleagues had suffered injustice and “yet another crime in a series of crimes that have happened and will continue to happen. And we are here to put an end to it,” he said.
Many professors expressed their support, and numerous political parties condemned the attack.
