Rail traffic on that section of the line has been temporarily suspended, the company said.
The derailment involved tankers operated by the company Elixir. The freight train was composed of 12 tanker cars and was en route from Prahovo to Sabac.
Emergency response teams, including police and fire and rescue units, as well as a joint railway investigation commission from Serbian Railways Infrastructure and Serbia Cargo, were dispatched to the scene. The commission will investigate the cause of the incident, the statement added.
