A senior Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) official claimed on Friday that the balance of forces between the opposition and ruling coalition was unchanged since last year’s elections.

Darko Glisic, head of the SNS Executive Committee, told the pro-government TV Prva that the opposition would run from early parliamentary elections if they were called now.

“If we said elections, they would run from them…. There were important elections in Belgrade, all big cities last year and they lost everywhere. Don’t think that a lot has changed since the months when the elections were held,” the Minister for Public Investments said. He recalled that the authorities offered to hold elections since then as well as referendum on the president but that the opposition allegedly refused.

He accused the opposition of wanting to cause incidents on election day and denying election results. “They need an incident to stay in the public eye and cause what they call tensions,” Glisic said.
