The ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) top MP Milenko Jovanov said on Monday that the March 4 session of parliament would most likely take note of Prime Minister Milos Vucevic’s resignation but only after ministers report on demands made by protesting students.

Earlier, Speaker Ana Brnabic told Euronews that the session would begin by adopting a number of laws she said were of major importance. She said parliament would choose a new government instead of calling elections. Parliament should first take note of the PM’s resignation but that would mean the draft laws couldn’t be submitted to MPs for debate and adoption.

Jovanov told a news conference in the lobby of parliament that Vucevic’s resignation could come at any time in the session. He said that it’s more important for the current ministers to report to parliament on what he said are negotiations with universities and the response to the student demands.

Jovanov said that he would not be at a meeting of MPs with European Parliament rapporteur Tonino Picula MEP because of a prior engagement adding: “I can’t attend, I have another important event – sorting my socks by color,” he said.
