N1 was contacted by people in the Zajecar area who said they were promised money to vote for the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) but were tricked.
A number of SNS voters told N1 that they were promised 3,000 Dinars (1 Euro – 117 Dinars) for their vote and have not been paid. Residents of Grljan village said they were promised the money and were tricked. They denied knowing that paying for votes is illegal. Some of them said they would not be selling their votes again because they are disappointed that they weren’t paid.
Residents of the village of Vrazogrnac said much the same – they were promised money for their vote but were not paid. They said that person who promised the money took it. “We didn’t see him, we don’t know where he came from or who he is,” one woman said adding that they were also promised 3,000 Dinars. They said they were given food parcels earlier and promised the money after the local elections.
Local elections were held in Zajecar and Kosjeric on Sunday with tensions running high and a number of reported irregularities.
