It is obvious that, under the wave of student blockades and protests that have become either civil or popular, there is no going back, said retired sociologist and professor of the Faculty of Political Sciences Zoran Stojiljkovic. "This regime is entering a terminal phase, which means that it must be resolved in a short period of time," he added. Pročitaj više
Speaking to N1, Stojiljkovic talked about the Saturday rallies on the occasion of the Statehood Day – the student gathering in Kragujevac as well as the one of the political authorities and „their friends“ in Sremska Mitrovica , which were marked in their own unique and completely different ways. When asked if those two Serbias could meet soon, Stoljkovic replied – quite hard.
„It is about two groups, two cultures, two tastes, two mentalities, two experiences of democracy and social justice,“ he told N1, adding that he sees the resolution in an arrangement in which „willingly or unwillingly, the regime would include people outside the institutions – students, universities, the academic community, the public, and that this would be a way for the government with a limited mandate and time to bring about more or less fair elections.“
The energy of the students, as he assessed, has not been falling for months, but is expanding and has made a lot of progress.
„Something has to happen in the next month“
According to Stojiljkovic, something must happen in the next month – an attempt to get the resignation of prime minister Milos Vucevic to the parliament.
„To find a mechanism for the opposition to appear there, to confirm the resignation. There has to be a talk of a transitional government, even if it is made up of the existing majority with decorated experts, it must have a limited mandate and agenda. By May, we must have an attempt to create some kind of institution or arrangement that includes constant control over those processes,“ he concluded.
