Solak’s lawyer denies criminal proceedings after Vucic calls for arrest

Zdenko Tomanovic, legal counsel for Dragan Solak, founder of United Group, issued a strong response after Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic labelled his client a “criminal” during a televised appearance and called for his arrest, claiming that Solak was wanted in eight countries.

“No criminal proceedings are being conducted against my client, Dragan Solak, either in Serbia or abroad. The routine public promotion of falsehoods and insults by the state leadership is not only a matter of legal illiteracy but constitutes unlawful conduct,” Tomanovic stated in a press release.
He stressed that such remarks from top state officials not only threaten the reputation and personal safety of his client but also, in his words, “create space for gross violations of rights and the erosion of elementary democratic standards in Serbia.”
The lawyer’s reaction comes after Vucic, appearing on TV Pink, again rejected accusations that he pressures United Media’s leadership or influences editorial decisions at N1. However, he escalated his rhetoric by directly demanding Solak’s arrest.

“This is a man who is being pursued in eight countries of the world as a criminal. I have never hidden that,” Serbian President said during the broadcast.
This statement followed a day after the President publicly demanded prosecutorial action against N1, threatening that if prosecutors failed to respond, he would take “appropriate measures” himself.
Tomanovic’s rebuttal underscores the intensifying confrontation between Serbia’s leadership and independent media outlets associated with United Group, amid growing concerns about media freedom and political pressure in the country.
