Coalition officials met in Belgrade on Friday evening to decide whether to boycott the elections or field candidates following multiple meetings with the ruling coalition and Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic’s statement that the authorities agreed to the last of three demands made by the opposition. Those demands are a commission to review the voter registry, full access to the state TV (RTS) and all local elections on the same date.

The People’s Movement Serbia, Democratic Party (DS), Green-Left Front, Ecological Uprising, Movement of Free Citizens and New Face of Serbia voted to stand in the elections while the Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP), Serbia Center (SRCE) and Zajedno voted against fielding candidates.

Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on Thursday that all local elections will be held on June 2, adding that election laws have to be amended to allow that possibility. The changes to the law on local elections are supposed to be adopted by parliament on Saturday.
