The opposition Serbia Against Violence (SPN) coalition has requested that the Serbian Parliament constitutive session be held after February 8, when members of the European Parliament are to discuss the Serbian December 17 elections.

“It should be noted that European Parliament representatives came to Serbia to observe the elections at the invitation of the Serbian authorities. That is why it is more than logical that post-election activities, including the constitution of a new parliament, should begin only once their official position is heard, i.e. when the European Parliament adopts a resolution on the held elections,” said the SPN.

The coalition said that, by scheduling the constitutive session for before February 8, “the ruling regime would show that it fears the MEPs’ assessment, because its leaders are aware of the large number of fraudulent activities that they carried out and thus altered the electoral will of the citizens.”

The SPN said in a press release that holding the first session even after the European Parliament discussion on Serbian election would be within the legal deadlines for the constitution of parliament.
