Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) MP Bojan Jankulovic said Monday that the head of the Vojvodina provincial government, Maja Gojkovic, opened the Railway Station in the city of Novi Sad that had previously been opened by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

“The reconstruction of the railway station in Novi Sad began back in October 2021, and the station was first ceremonially opened in 2022 during the election campaign, with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban present,” said Jankulovic.

He added that the same part of the railway station presented to the public as a major success of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), and primarily Aleksandar Vucic, was closed again a year later for further work.

“It has now been reopened in the presence of Maja Gojkovic, who may not even be aware that this is a second opening, there might be a third if they continue at this pace,” Jankulovic added.

According to the statement, the total cost of these projects, including the construction of the railway line between Novi Sad and Belgrade, was 934 million US dollars.

“Sixty-five million euros were spent on the building itself. What was, just 10 years ago, the most advanced railway network in Europe has been rapidly deteriorated by this government and now billions are being allocated for the construction and reconstruction of the same tracks. These repeated reconstructions have become a new tactic for the regime to siphon and embezzle public funds—reconstructing reconstructions and reopening what has been opened,” said SSP MP Jankulovic.
