SSP’s Popovic: Convicted rapist guarding regime supporter tent camp in Belgrade

Mila Popovic, head of the opposition Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) Belgrade Board, said that the person who blocked an N1 TV crew from entering Pioneer Park in central Belgrade on Wednesday had already been making threats from the regime supporters’ tent encampment, colloquially known as Caciland, back in November.

“Miroslav Suvalj from Sombor - sentenced to 15 years in prison, convicted of multiple crimes including the rape of a man, who yesterday explained that he is protecting Serbia from ‘scum’ - was already making threats from inside Caciland in November. When (Serbian President) Aleksandar Vucic says that Caciland is a ‘seed of freedom,’ he is referring to the freedom of criminals to harass and abuse citizens. That is why he allowed a part of the camp to remain in Pioneer Park. This is the people the regime relies on. This is their last line of defense,” Popovic said on a post on X.
While the regime supporters’ encampment was recently cleared from the plateau directly in front of the Serbian Parliament building, Pioneer Park remains inaccessible to the public. The park is currently enclosed by high metal fencing and still contains tents.
Access to the park is being blocked by individuals claiming to be private security personnel, and they are being protected by a police presence.
