Stano: Attackers must never be equated with victims

Stano confirmed that, on September 25, the day of mourning in Kosovo, the EU Office in Pristina flew the EU flag at half mast to honor the “victims of the horrific terrorist attack on Sunday,” while the EU Delegation in Belgrade did not do so on September 27, the day of mourning in Serbia.

Attackers must never be equated with victims, Stano said in a written statement to Radio Free Europe (RFE).

On Sunday, September 24, a group of armed and masked persons attacked the Kosovo Police in the Banjska village area, northern Kosovo. One police officer was killed while, in the exchange of fire, the police killed three Serb assailants.

The attack was strongly condemned by the international community and described by the EU as “a terrorist attack.”

The EU officials insist on an investigation into the attack in Banjska, stressing that the results of this investigation will determine EU’s further steps.

What happened on Sunday was very serious and has to be unveiled because there will be consequences, said Stano.

What happened was a terrorist attack and it should be investigated and those responsible must be brought to justice, he added.
