Asked by reporters in Brussels on comment on the role of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) in the light of the latest developments in Kosovo, European Union (EU) spokesperson Peter Stano said EULEX is supporting the Kosovo Police.

“As I said already yesterday, EULEX is there on the ground as a second security responder. Within its mandate, EULEX does everything it can to support the Kosovo Police if asked, and I can confirm that the cooperation so far has been very good. EULEX is performing tasks as requested and asked by the Kosovo Police and they will continue doing so. The commander and the head of the EULEX mission is in regular touch with High Representative (Josep) Borrell and provides updates about the situation on the ground and this is everything I can say on the operation level at this stage,” said Stano.

Tensions are high in Kosovo following clashes between the Serbs and the Kosovo police that took place on Sunday in the village of Banjska. Four assailants and one Kosovo police officer were killed. The village of Banjska in Kosovo is still under a blockade, while three Serbs were arrested on Monday.
