Commenting on the dialogue between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, lead spokesman of the European Commission for Foreign Affairs Peter Stano said that the EU cannot impose solutions on partners, “especially on those who express themselves very clearly that their strategic objective is to join the European Union (EU).”

“A lot of the issues which are causing irritation in the relations between Belgrade and Pristina are dealt with in the EU-facilitated dialogue,” Stano said.

He explained that “it is not a forced dialogue”, and that the EU “can facilitate as long as there is willingness on both sides  to find a compromise solution.”

“Without progress in the dialogue… there will be no progress on the EU accession path of both sides,” Stano said, adding that the EU cannot impose solutions on the two sides, but it can “help them behave in a European way, which means to find a compromise.”
