European Union (EU) spokesperson Peter Stano said Tuesday that Belgrade and Pristina have the obligation to implement the Ohrid agreement.
“This is a legally binding agreement, and both sides have the duty to implement it. This is captured in one of its articles where it says that this agreement is becoming a part of their accession path to the European Union,” Stano said in Brussels.
Stano was asked to comment on EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajcak’s statement that the Serbian Government has withdrawn its letter on “red lines” for the implementation of the 2023 Ohrid agreement. Former Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic last year sent a letter to the EU saying Serbia does not accept the agreement.
The EU spokesperson said it is for the Serbian authorities to comment on this matter, but reiterated that the agreement is a final and binding document under international law for both Kosovo and Serbia.
If they fail to implement it, they will not be able to proceed on their EU path, said Stano.
