State auditors find irregularities in public procurement
Serbian state auditors said in a report that a large percent of state funds are being spent inappropriately.
A report said that most of the misuses of public funds are in public procurement where about 20 percent is spent on things the money is not intended to b used for.
The annual report for 2023 said that irregularities were registered totaling more than 900 billion Dinars in financial reports.
State Auditing Institution chief Dusko Pejovic said that irregularities were found in almost 18 percent of the public procurement procedures state auditors reviewed. “The worst irregularities were in planning public procurement, researching the market and documenting the findings,” he said.
Pejovic said that 92 percent of the recommendations made by state auditors were implemented and added that 144 charges were filed agaisnt 417 people.
