Statistics Office: Average net salary in Serbia at c. 1,000 euro in May

The average gross salary in Serbia for May was approximately 1,396 euro, while the average salary without taxes and contributions (net) amounted to c. 1,012 euro, the Republic Statistics Office (RZS) announced.

Compared to the same month last year, May’s average gross salary saw a nominal increase of 9.8 percent and a real increase of 6.1 percent. During the same period, average net earnings grew by 9.9 percent in nominal terms, representing a 6.2 percent increase in real terms after adjusting for inflation, the RZS said.

The Republic Statistics Office also reported that the median net salary for May was approximately 797 euro, meaning that half of the country’s employees earned up to that amount.

For the first five months of 2026, wage growth showed a significant upward trend. Gross salaries from January to May rose by 11.1 percent nominally (eight percent in real terms) compared to the same period in 2025. Similarly, average net wages for the five-month period increased by 11.3 percent in nominal terms and 8.2 percent in real terms, the RZS stated.
