Strong police presence ahead of Novi Sad protest

The protest is in response to the November 1 accident where a concrete canopy at the Novi Sad train station collapsed, killing fourteen people and seriously injuring another three.

At the same time, opposition members of parliament are sharing footage on social media showing numerous police officers equipped with riot gear entering the City Hall building.

Bojan Pajtic, a former head of the Vojvodina government, issued a warning on social networks that the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) has been handing out baseball bats to hooligans across Novi Sad and instructing them to break store windows and cause property damage during the protest.

The Novi Sad protest is scheduled to begin at 6 pm.
