Student blockade of public broadcaster continues in Belgrade

Students and citizens on Friday continued blocking the Serbian state TV (RTS) headquarters in downtown Belgrade, as well as its offices and studio in the capital’s Kosutnjak neighborhood.
They have been blocking access to RTS buildings since Monday evening, expressing dissatisfaction with the public broadcaster’s reporting. Protesters say the blockade will continue until a new public call is issued for the appointment of members to the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) Council, or until the public broadcaster is shut down.
The students announced that, since Good Friday is being observed in Serbia, there would be no noise or music in front of RTS. However, they invited everyone to join them in dyeing Easter eggs.

In front of RTS’s main building in central Belgrade, students and citizens also observed 16 minutes of silence in memory of the victims of the November 1, 2024 tragedy in Novi Sad.
Officers from the Belgrade Police Department and traffic police were present to ensure the safety of those gathered.
Students from Novi Pazar said they would join the RTS blockade throughout the Easter holiday weekend, in support of their fellow students in Belgrade, who have now been blocking the public broadcaster for four days.
“We’ve always represented Novi Pazar in the best possible light, and now we’ll prove it again! See you in front of the RTS!” said students from the State University of Novi Pazar.
