Student Day marked with march through Belgrade
Belgrade University students staged a march through the Serbian capital to mark Student Day on Friday, laying a wreath in memory of a student killed in demonstrations in 1936.
The students marched to the city Pathology Institute where law student Zarko Mitrovic was killed during a protest in 1936.
They observed a minute of silence for him at Belgrade’s New Cemetery while a delegation laid a wreath at his grave. Student day is observed in Serbia in his memory.
The march went from the Pathology Institute to the University Law School where a choir sang the Gaudeamus Igitur hymn and students addressed the protest and on to the cemetery.
They also observed the 16 Minutes of Silence in memory of the victims of the Novi Sad Railway Station tragedy.
