Student participating in local elections in Serbia receives death threats

Roland Sipos, a student who is on the "Voice of the Youth of Kula Municipality" list for the local elections taking place in this municipality in northern Serbia on March 29, has received death threats, but despite this, he says he will not give up and that this shows the fear of the other side, which, as he points out, has nothing to offer the citizens.

Sipos explains to N1 that the threats arrived via a call from a hidden phone number to his brother.
"They threatened him that they would kill me, kill my sister, kill him, and there were various other threats, but these are the most critical ones. I can say that I do not feel fear," he said.
He added that the threats are not an isolated incident and that, like previous times, he has reported them to the police.
"So far, we have had various threats, we reported them but unsuccessfully. We report them, they say they will react and nothing actually happens," he explains.
He stated that he does not know who sent him the threats, but that he suspects the regime.
"Because they see us as a threat, they see our list, they see the young people in Kula, and the only ones who benefit from such things are the regime. This shows their fear. They have nothing to offer to this city and this people, and all that is left for them is to try to intimidate us, so that we withdraw. And we do not feel fear, we know why we are here and we know who we are. The people of Kula know who we are, so I do not feel fear. Certainly there is something, I am afraid for my safety, but that I have some great fear, no. There is huge support from my fellow citizens of Kula," he said.
Regular local elections in Kula are held on March 29, and tensions in this municipality began even before they were announced, with the targeting and threatening of activists of the "Youth of Kula" organization who lead the "Voice of the Youth of Kula Municipality" list. This list is also supported by students of Serbian universities who have been protesting against the government in Serbia for more than a year.
