It said that technical sciences student Bogdan Jovicic (22) was ordered into house arrest by the Higher Court in that northern Serbian city after spending almost 2 months in jail. He was ordered into detention for 30 days on charges of vandalism during a student protest. Jovicic’s father died while he was in detention and he was escorted to the funeral by guards. His request to be released was thrown out just days earlier and his detention renewed for another 30 days.

He was arrested during a protest when the local Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) offices were vandalized and the window on a parked car damaged. He went on hunger strike when his request for release was rejected.

The court ordered a 3 month house arrest.
