A large number of police officers in riot gear, along with gendarmerie troopers, were deployed around the Vojvodina Assembly building, where a session of the provincial parliament is underway.

A fence has been set up in front of the Assembly building, allowing access only to officials and accredited journalists.

Students and citizens are protesting outside the building, chanting slogans such as “Resignations, then jail!” and throwing eggs at the Assembly building.

Opposition members arrived at the session carrying banners.

In front of the Assembly, protesters brought oversized Easter egg props featuring images of the director of Serbian state TV (RTS), the provincial government head, and the speaker of the Vojvodina Assembly.

The session is in progress, and journalists have been allowed to attend. The agenda includes 10 items, including a report from the provincial ombudsman and regional spatial planning documents. Assembly speaker Balint Juhas said it is important to engage in discussion and that a normal working rhythm for the Assembly will be reestablished in the coming period. He had not made a public appearance since the November 1 Novi Sad train station canopy collapse that claimed 16 lives.

A student from the University of Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences, Andjela Elez, told N1 this is only the second session since the Novi Sad tragedy.

“Once again, we’re not on the agenda. It’s been five months without a single mention. Five months since 16 people were killed. We urge the authorities to take this seriously—thank you,” Elez said.
