The meeting was organized by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) under the slogan Future Not the Past which was attended by Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and Parliament Speaker Ana Branbic.
The students told N1 that they wanted to attend the meeting but were denied entry. Student Aleksa Dragovic from the School of Agriculture said he wanted to hear what benefits were being offered to young people in terms of cheap housing loans. He said he showed security guards his student book and was thrown out. He said he would not have been thrown out if he had an SNS membership card and added that the people he saw were a little too old to be students.
Vucic told the gathering that a lot of people who enjoy foreign support want Serbia to go back into the past. “It’s up to us to show courage, determination, patriotism and how much we love our country,” he said.
According to Vucic, the current university protests are not student protests. He added that the police would not use force unless they are forced to do so.
