Architecture students staged a protest on Tuesday outside the Sava Center venue in Belgrade, where the first Expo 2027 Planning Meeting is being held.

N1’s reporter said that there is strong police presence at the site, that the protesters are being ID-checked, and that the students are calling on Belgraders to join them.

Over 30 police officers are deployed in two lines. Additional police units are present in the surrounding area, and a metal barricade has been set up around the venue, said N1’s reporter.

The protesters displayed a banner reading “Exposed: Same Thieves, Bigger Stage.”

“We wanted to draw attention to the public debt project, which has already shown serious signs of law misuse,” a student from the Faculty of Architecture told N1.

She added that, although there are only about fifteen students protesting, police took their ID cards and returned them only after half an hour.

“There is strong police presence. Police vans arrived. This project is problematic because it will burden future generations and threatens Belgrade’s water sources and the Sava River embankment,” she warned.

She also pointed out that the adoption of a special law allows, among other things, the use of buildings without a certificate of completion.
