All the student bodies formed at protesting university schools in Belgrade denied that their demands had been met, a day after President Aleksandar Vucic said they had been or would be met.

The students are demanding full disclosure of all documents related to the reconstruction of Novi Sad Railway Station to determine accountability for the fall of a canopy roof that claimed 15 lives, the identification and arrest of thugs who beat fellow students at protests and several other things. Vucic staged a news conference in the Presidency building on Wednesday evening to claim the demands were being met. A crowd of students whistled and booed outside to disrupt the live news conference.

The protesting students organized bodies called plenums to voice their demands and plan activities. Every one of those plenums at Belgrade University and Belgrade Arts University colleges denied Vucic’s claims.

“We expect an immediate reaction by the competent bodies to our demands. We recall that we are witness to physical and verbal repression against students and citizens who are demanding criminal accountability. We stress that the people guilty of violence against students peacefully observing 15 minutes of silence have not been processed yet,” a statement said.

The students also distanced themselves from political parties and organizations. “Our only goal is the immediate meeting of our demands and we remain in blockade until then,” it added.
